OnePlus 16 launches in China with a 3,840Hz "Oriental" LTPO display, 200MP camera, and 9,000mAh battery

OnePlus has launched its new China-market flagship with a high-refresh LTPO display, dedicated gaming silicon, a 200MP main camera, and a 9,000mAh battery.

In this article, we look at the OnePlus 16, OnePlus's successor flagship launched in China. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme, pairs a 4th-gen "Oriental" LTPO display with in-house gaming silicon, carries a 9,000mAh battery, and ships with new accessories. According to reporting from China, a global launch event is set for November 5, 2026.

The much-awaited OnePlus 16 flagship has now been launched in the Chinese market. Alongside the smartphone, OnePlus also introduced a new SuperVOOC pocket power bank, a magnetic mini cooler, and an aramid-fibre magnetic case. Per The Tech Outlook, the launch is China-first, with pre-orders already open in China and on-sale beginning October 13, 2026. iFeng reported a global launch event scheduled for November 5, 2026.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme, in-house gaming core, and dedicated chips

At the heart of the OnePlus 16 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 mobile platform. OnePlus pairs it with its in-house Fengchi Gaming Core, plus three dedicated chips aimed at the performance-critical path in games: a G3 network chip for reduced network latency, a P4 display chip for high-frame-rate output, and a T3 touch chip for improved touch response.

4th-generation "Oriental" display: 165Hz, 185Hz in games, 3,840Hz PWM

The screen is the big headline. The OnePlus 16 carries OnePlus's 4th-gen "Oriental" (Dongfang) display with a custom X4 luminous material on an LTPO panel. It supports up to a 165Hz refresh rate across supported system scenarios, while compatible games can push to 185Hz. The panel is rated for 2,000 nits of peak brightness, uses 3,840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and adds hardware-level low-blue-light support, sunlight viewing, and AI-based eye-comfort features.

OnePlus's Ultra Game Frame software adds a built-in recording frame with frame-rate, temperature, and performance data overlaid at the top of the screen during gameplay, and the company says the display cuts perceived on-screen delay in half with "zero ghosting, zero lag, and zero tearing" at peak frame rates.

Cameras: 200MP main, 3x periscope, and the LUMO imaging system

The rear camera module is led by a 200MP main camera (1/1.4" sensor, f/1.6, OIS), backed by a 50MP periscope telephoto (1/1.95" sensor, 3x optical zoom, OIS) and a 50MP ultra-wide. A 50MP front-facing camera handles selfies and calls. The stack runs on the LUMO imaging system, the LUMO native light-and-shadow engine, and LUMO colour science.

9,000mAh battery, 100W charging, and improved cooling

A 9,000mAh "Glacier" battery sits underneath the phone — a jump from the previous generation. It supports 100W SuperVOOC wired and 50W wireless charging, along with 27W wired reverse charging, wireless reverse charging, and OnePlus's full-scenario bypass charging. A new Glacier Battery energy-management chip is also on board.

Cooling comes from the next-generation ICE "Ice River" cooling system with a partitioned cooling design, using graphene rated at 2,100 W/m·K for thermal conductivity. The device also carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K dust and water ratings, a broader environmental envelope than most flagships, alongside an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers with master speaker tuning, an X-axis linear vibration motor, n79 5G band support, tri-frequency GPS, and quad-frequency BeiDou positioning.

Accessories and availability

Alongside the phone, OnePlus launched the SuperVOOC 67W Pocket Charge power bank (10,000mAh, up to 67W SuperVOOC output, available from October 21), the Ice Card mini magnetic cooler (a card-sized TEC cooler that pulls power from the phone or a power bank), and an aramid-fibre 1.3mm magnetic case compatible with the OPPO magnetic-accessory ecosystem.

The OnePlus 16 is offered in four memory configurations, from 12GB/256GB to 16GB/1TB, in Black Forest, Tomorrow's Starlight, and Mars Survival colourways, running ColorOS 17 with the Polar Light Engine and Tide Engine for system animations and performance. iFeng's reporting additionally notes BeiDou satellite connectivity support on the device.

Pricing note

The Tech Outlook's launch coverage lists Chinese pricing starting at CNY 5,699 (12GB/256GB) and topping out at CNY 8,199 (16GB/1TB), with launch pricing running from October 12 to November 13, 2026. A separate outlet, iFeng, reported a higher Chinese starting price; the two figures could not be reconciled from the reporting available at the time of writing, so specific figures should be treated with care. Global and India pricing have not yet been confirmed.

What this means for you

The OnePlus 16 continues OnePlus's push toward faster, brighter displays and larger batteries inside a flagship phone, now backed by dedicated gaming silicon and improved cooling. The November 5 global launch event, if it proceeds as reported, will determine how the Chinese-market specs translate to the rest of the world. For buyers outside China, the question is whether the display, camera, and battery configuration carry over intact, and the global event should give a definitive answer.
